In Baldwin, Maine 28 miles outside the city of Portland in the north eastern USA a 150 000 t/y pellet plant is under construction. Opening is planned to summer 2016. The plant is built on a 104-acre site owned by FE Wood & Sons, a 5th generation forest products company and also the owner of F.E.Wood Natural Energy (FEWNE) the company that will own and run the plant.
Produced wood pellets will be supplied to the heating market in northeastern USA as well to be shipped to Europe. There are excellent port facilities in Portland and frequent shipping routes are available to European consumers.
FE Wood Natural Energy has assembled a team of industry leaders to drive this project. One of the leading energy law firms in the region, Bernstein Shur Sawyer and Nelson, provides the legal counsel. Hancock Lumber, has contractually guaranteed the 300,000 metric tons of timber feedstock the project will require.
Preliminary design has been done by Seeger Engineering, who has built numerous industrial pellet plants in the U.S. and Europe. Tilson Technology Management, New England’s leading energy and telecom implementation consulting firm, provides project management, strategic advisory, and financing assistance.
The EPC Contractor brings a partnership of engineering, construction, project management and process excellence to the FEWNE project.
