Byogy Renewables, Inc. is a biofuels organization, headquartered in San Jose, California that develop processes for advanced biofuels, namely jet fuel and gasoline from any source of bio ethanol via a back end destiation and reforming step. Byogy's fuels are direct renewable substitutes for petroleum based fuels.
Byogy’s process is based on the "sugar platform" . Today, sugar based ethanol is a market commodity with global production rates growing every year. However, much of the R&D these days focuses on developing alternative feedstock based fuels such as algae-based biofuels, plant oil based fuels, and genetically formed biofuels. These next-generation biofuels are according the company still at least a decade or two away from being economically sustainable and commercially scalable.
Byogy’s process will leverage the existing, ethanol based infrastructure and support the ongoing and growing demand for traditional sugar based biofuels, in part bolstered by government-mandated requirements around the world. Byogy’s process provides new market opportunities to the ethanol/sugar industry by enabling the conversion of sugar-based feed stocks into conventional advanced “drop-in” liquid bio-fuels.
An illustration of the implementation of Byogy's technology platform is its simple adaption to existing sugar cane, corn, and cellulosic (when available) ethanol production facilities. This provides existing ethanol producers with a high value co-product in addition to ethanol.
Byogy’s technological process has been developed to convert ordinary ethanol, into advanced biofuels. The ethanol is converted into a mixture of long chain hydrocarbons by catalytic synthesis. The hydrocarbons are then fractionated into renewable jet fuel and gasoline.
